Desire is a good word to show the longing and struggles of all the things that are put into wanting something the way that Gatsby does. Gatsby’s downfall was his desire and how it’s presented to the world. In the end, Gatsby’s desires overshadowed the reality of the situation, his dream of getting Daisy back after five years of waiting was too far of a stretch to be a possibility. Jay Gatsby was living in his delusion out of self-security and undying love. He had chosen himself for Daisy the night they kissed and he knew that he wouldn’t be a free man after that moment. Desire was the flaw of Jay Gatsby and his desire was the most important thing that pulled him into his tragedy of love.
